Brazilian conductor Thiago Tiberio leads orchestra in New York

Brazilian conductor Thiago Tiberio will be leading the New York Symphonic Arts Ensemble orchestra in a program of American classical music, the highlight being a reconstruction of George Gershwin’s New York Rhapsody, which was part of the soundtrack for the 1931 film Delicious before being premiered in concert by the Boston Symphony Orchestra under Serge Koussevitzky (1932), when it was retitled Second Rhapsody.

A young and energetic new talent, Tiberio has been leading ensembles of various sizes and configurations for a number of years in recitals, concerts, and film scoring sessions, and has been praised by his peers for his mature musicianship, clarity of expression, and accurate technique.

Some of his latest collaborations have included the Orquestra Sinfônica Brasileira (Brasil), Orquesta Sinfónica de Euskadi (Spain), BBC Concert Orquestra (United Kingdom), Hollywood Symphony (USA), Vancouver Symphony Orquestra (Canada), München Symphoniker (Germany), Orquesta Sinfónica de Navarra (Spain), West Australian Symphony Orchestra (Australia), and Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra (Japan), in operas such as Les Vêpres Siciliennes (Verdi) and Turandot (Puccini) as well as in large concert productions such as Danny Elfman: Music from the Films of Tim Burton and The Lord of the Rings: Live to Projection (full orchestra, special instruments, adult and youth choruses, and soloists—over 250 musicians on stage).

The New York Symphonic Arts Ensemble (NYSAE) was founded in 1988 by a group of musicians in order to present interesting orchestral music played at the highest level by a volunteer organization. This concert features Rhapsody in Blue and New York Rhapsody (George Geshwin), “The Promise of Living” from the opera A Tender Land (Aaron Copland), and Symphony No.2 in D-flat Major, Op. 30 “Romantic” (Howard Hanson).
